Ambitious! Samsung spent about $1.6 trillion building the semiconductor colony
The South Korean government announced in March 2023 that it would invest 300 trillion won (1.6 trillion yuan) with Samsung to build five cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing plants by 2024, and build the world's largest semiconductor cluster in the Seoul metropolitan area with more than 150 domestic and foreign raw material, component, equipment and IC design companies. Nothing short of ambitious.
According to the report, Samsung's success in attracting global semiconductor manufacturers to invest in the region, including the executives of the U.S. -based Applied Materials and ASML of the Netherlands are meeting with the government office of Gyeonggi Province near Seoul to discuss investment plans, infrastructure development and tax incentives.
