ADI MEMS sensor technology helps Vision Energy build the foundation for intelligent wind turbine safety

Analog Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq:. The new functions provided by ADI's advanced MEMS sensors add intelligence to the edge, enabling real-time monitoring and further promoting the transformation of green energy.

Wind power, as one of the most mature renewable energy sources, has achieved rapid development in China in recent years. According to data from the National Energy Administration, as of the end of 2022, China's cumulative installed capacity of wind power has reached approximately 370 million kilowatts, firmly ranking as the world's largest wind power market. With the gradual expansion of wind power scale, the components of wind turbines are rapidly iterating, with tower towers being built higher, blades being made longer, and cabin weight becoming heavier, posing significant challenges to the safe and reliable operation of the wind power system.

Among them, the tower, as one of the key components of the wind turbine, needs to be monitored to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the wind power equipment. The tower extends from the ground up to the engine room and blades. In order to improve safety and prevent extreme safety accidents such as tower collapse, Yuanyuan Energy and ADI have collaborated to introduce predictive maintenance technology into the core control of intelligent wind turbines. By deploying ADI precision inertial navigation measurement units (IMUs) and low noise, low drift accelerometers at different locations, real-time monitoring of key state variables of the tower is achieved, and corresponding measures are taken to avoid accidents using the collected tower information.

Chen Haipeng, Director of Intelligent Control Department of Yuanyuan Energy, stated: From a long-term perspective, wind power and energy storage are new coal, and safety has always been the first element in the process of delving into their value. We are pleased to collaborate with ADI company to install 'nose, eyes, and ears' on wind turbines through its high-precision and highly reliable predictable MEMS sensors, effectively ensuring tower safety, and bringing blade diameter and tower height to new boundaries, continuously leading industry progress

Zhao Yanhui, Director of the Asia Pacific Microelectromechanical Product Line of ADI Company, pointed out that "ADI has decades of deep accumulation in the field of MEMS sensors. We assist customers in solving application challenges in different scenarios through high-performance solutions and comprehensive support. This cooperation with Yuanyuan Energy will safeguard the promotion of intelligent distributed wind turbines
